A great opportunity has become available for an experienced Accounts Assistant to join our expanding Winn Solicitors Accounts Team.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working within an accounts department, preferably within a legal environment and be working towards, or hold an AAT qualification.

Job Description

You will be responsible for providing an efficient accounts service, ensuring financial records are kept accurate and up to date, and assist others within the organisation as required. Your duties will include, but not restricted to:

  • Complete daily bank account reconciliations, resolving any variances and updating cashflow model/ make relevant ledger postings.
  • Process daily disbursement write offs and maintain monthly write off report.
  • Update daily sales report using Excel, correctly allocating transactions to income type.
  • Calculate weekly WIP valuation.
  • Monitor Finance Helpdesk and resolve queries allocated in a timely manner.
  • Identify and produce internal report for any Solicitors Accounts Rule Breaches.
  • Provide support to resolves queries from, and deliver training to other departments within the organisation as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts including prepayments, accruals, nominal analysis and control account reconciliations.
  • Purchase ledger postings and ledger reconciliations.
  • Assist/cover for daily tasks as required including:

o Daily banking of cheques received via post to achieve cut off time for delivery to bank.

o Produce daily client and office bank account cheque payments and complete relevant postings to the finance system.

o Process cheque slip rejections for those requests not processed with reasons for rejections.

o Process daily bank transfers between group bank accounts and process related entries onto finance system.

o Raise daily client bills.

o Process daily Bacs receipts.

o Produce daily client and office bank account BACS payments and complete relevant postings to finance system.

  • ·Complete tasks as allocated by Management Team.
  • Undertake to adhere to Solicitors’ Accounts Rules.
  • To assist other members of the Finance team so they can achieve their Key Responsibilities.
  • Any ad hoc or additional duties as deemed fit and appropriate by the Management Team for this post and the associated level of responsibility attached to it.

Person Specification

The successful candidate must commit to upholding the company’s core values, Integrity, Respect, Loyalty and Reliability and ensure that they are demonstrated throughout their working practice. You should also possess the relevant attributes and experience outlined below:

  • Experience of working within an Accounts team.
  • IT Literate with advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience of reconciling multiple complex ledgers.
  • Knowledge of Solicitors Accounts rules (desirable).
  • AAT qualification or working towards (or equivalent experience desirable).
  • Minimum of 5 GCSE’s grades 4 or above (or equivalent) including Maths and English.
  • Excellent communication and numeracy skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong time management and organisation skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
