Nichola Welsh is a Costs Lawyer and Team Leader in the Costs Team at Winn Solicitors. She joined the firm as an Office Junior while on a gap year, and has worked her way up while studying at the same time.

Nichola recently celebrated ten years with Winns. We asked her to tell us about her time with the firm:

“I’ve been working at Winns since it was based in the small office over on Heaton Road, before we first moved over to Brinkburn Street.

I originally joined Winn Solicitors during a gap year. I had applied to university, however I wanted to obtain some work experience for a year prior to going to university. I decided to stay at Winns during my university course as I was offered part-time hours. This was a great opportunity for me as I was able to continue obtaining experience throughout my course. I decided to stay following the completion of my course due to the experience I had gained over the years, and the opportunities on offer.

I’ve had several job roles over the years, all within the Costs Team: Office Junior, Typist/ Secretary, Predictive Costs Clerk, Costs Draftsman, and Team Leader – Drafters/ Costs Lawyer.

Winn Solicitors has offered me the chance to progress and obtain further qualifications. I’ve also met some great people over the years. My professional highlight so far is definitely qualifying as a costs lawyer in March 2015.

I have very much enjoyed the past ten years with Winns. It’s given me some great opportunities to progress in my career – I’m looking forward to my future with the company!”
