Paul Becomes Head of EL/PL and Technical Claims

Congratulations are in order for Paul Morpeth who has recently been promoted to Head of EL/PL and Technical Claims.

Paul originally joined Winns as part of the Complex Claims Team, which he still remains a member of for his remaining cases. He quickly progressed from Supervisor to Deputy Manager, before taking on this role.

Prior to working at Winns, Paul worked for Thompsons Solicitors for nearly ten years, dealing with mainly EL/PL and some industrial diseases cases.

We asked Paul about what his new role will involve;

“In the EL/PL team we deal with the vast majority of cases from the first enquiry to conclusion unless they become a serious injury. Therefore I review the initial enquiries to assess the prospects of success and allocate to a member of the team. I also supervise the team with the assistance of Rachel Armstrong, who supervises the more junior staff.

“In the Technical Team, I review any cases referred through the technical referral procedure, to determine if they are suitable for the team and then supervise the cases through to conclusion.

“I also deal with other management duties such as setting and reviewing performance targets and recruitment into the teams. I am enjoying managing the combination of both teams as this gives the variety of more complicated RTA work and the non-RTA work.

“I am keen to expand both of these teams, especially in light of the Government’s proposed reforms and the increase in the Small Claims Limit. In particular, I am looking at ways to increase the amount of EL/PL cases into the firm both in relation to the existing types of EL/PL work we deal with and also to move into other similar areas of personal injury work.”

On working at Winns, Paul said;

“I joined Winns three years ago for career progression as I wanted to focus on dealing with higher value and complex multi-track cases. Joining the Complex Team has allowed me to achieve this and I was immediately impressed with the forward-thinking approach of the firm.

"However my longer term goal has always been to move into a management role, and in particular, the EL/PL team, as this is my background. I had not expected this to materialise so soon, which I believe shows there is the chance to progress within the firm and I am grateful to the directors for this amazing opportunity to manage and develop these great teams.”

Associate Director, Jo Amos, added;

“Congratulations to Paul on his recent promotion to Head of EL/PL and Technical Claims. Paul has been a great asset to the firm since joining us three years ago, and it has been fantastic to see him progress in his career. I look forward to working with him in his new role, and supporting him in expanding the EL/PL side of the business.”
