Winns Staff Take on the GNR for The Sunshine Fund

'}}

Winns staff Kieran Embleton, Ben Marshall, and Sharan Singh took part in the Great North Run 2016 on behalf of The Sunshine Fund.

All three runners completed the 13.1 mile course in impressive times - with Kieran finishing in 01.53.51, Ben in 02.08.01 and Sharan in 03.45.10.

For the second year in a row, Winn Solicitors also sponsored the entire Sunshine Fund Team (100 people) with a £1500 donation, which allowed the charity to provide vests for the runners.

KieranBen and Sharan are still collecting sponsorship, however, their combined total so far is already over £600 – a fantastic contribution to the charity, which provides specialist equipment to children with disabilities in the North East of England.

Kieran said;

“This was my first time doing the GNR, and the atmosphere from the crowd was great. For me, the highlight was crossing the finishing line, especially after struggling from the 10-mile stage onwards. I’m definitely going to do the run again – but I’ll train next time!”

Ben added;

“I’ve always wanted to do the GNR – I was chuffed to get a place through work. I really enjoyed the run itself – it was great to see so many people cheering us on and high-fiving me as I ran past. The event is really well organised and the people living around the route really get involved, dishing out oranges and jelly babies to the runners. For me, the best part was seeing my friends and family half a mile from the finish. They made a banner and signs and it really pushed me along the last part of the race.”

Sharan said;

“It was also my first time doing the GNR – the support was fantastic and I really enjoyed it, especially running on the Tyne Bridge and seeing Newcastle so lively and the weather was lovely – it made me feel happy to call it my home. Travelling back home on the metro was a bit of a nightmare though – it was very stuffy and packed! I’m definitely hoping to do the run again!”
