Last night saw the Sunshine Fund’s annual Sunshine Run, so we’d like to take this opportunity to say a huge well done to all the runners who completed the 5k challenge while representing Winns!

They joined the hundreds of runners who took to Newcastle and Gateshead’s beloved Quayside to pound the pavement and raise money for the Chronicle’s Sunshine Fund. The weather may have been a far cry from the promise made in the run’s name, but that didn’t stop the 22 men and women of Winns from donning their luminous yellow shirts and hitting the circuit.

While everyone did exceptionally well to finish the run, special mention must go to Reece Jefferson from the IT department, who registered a time of 18:31 to come 4th overall!

The 5k run has been held for a number of years to benefit a fantastic cause, raising money to pay for care and equipment for disabled children in the region. Whilst the final figures are not yet in, it was hoped that this year’s event could raise at least £60,000 - money that is vital to securing life-changing apparatus.

“It was great to see so many people representing Winns once again at the Sunshine Run,” said Amy Thompson, Digital Marketing Manager at Winns.

“We’re all immensely proud of the team for taking part, and are already looking forward to next year’s event!”

Part of the Sunshine Fund’s Go Bananas campaign, the Sunshine Run has become a hugely popular part of the charity’s fundraising calendar. The route starts at the Newcastle end of the Quayside before heading over the Millennium Bridge and finishing in front of the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Arts.
