ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL & GOVERNANCE (ESG)

Sustainability and Responsibility

Our ESG approach drives action on climate, communities, and governance to build a sustainable future.

Environmental, Social, & Governance (ESG)

At Winn Group, responsible business is central to how we operate. Our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) approach reflects our commitment to reducing environmental impact, supporting our people and communities, and operating with integrity and transparency. Through structured governance, measurable climate action and employee-led initiatives, we are building a more sustainable business for the long term.

Environmental Responsibility

Climate Action & Net Zero Commitment

Winn Group is committed to reducing our environmental impact and progressing towards net zero carbon emissions. We have achieved Carbon Neutral status, awarded by Carbon Footprint Limited, by offsetting 1,143 tonnes of CO₂e through verified projects, including the Bergres Wind Power Project in Turkey and tree planting initiatives in Kenya.

Since 2016, we have worked closely with Green Energy Consulting in alignment with the Government’s Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS). We are also actively working towards achieving ISO 14001 certification to further strengthen our environmental management systems.

Reducing Our Environmental Footprint

We continuously invest in improving the efficiency and sustainability of our office environments

LIGHTING

We have upgraded lighting across all buildings, installed presence and absence sensors, and fitted solar panels to support sustainable energy use.

HEATING & COOLING

Energy consumption reduced through optimised air conditioning and heating controls, set in line with HSE recommendations and supplier guidance.

WATER EFFICIENCY

Modernised plumbing systems to reduce water usage and installation of energy-efficient hand dryers.

PAPER REDUCTION

Biodegradable toilet tissue and single-sheet dispensers were introduced to minimise waste.

RENEWABLE ENERGY

We operate solely on electricity and prioritise renewable energy suppliers for new contracts. Solar panels have also been installed.

ENERGY RESILIENCE

Efficient, low-emission standby generators ensure continuity while maintaining environmental standards.

Waste & Resource Management

Digital-first approach to case management, significantly reducing paper usage.

Office-wide recycling facilities and removal of individual desk bins.

Increased recycling collection frequency across all sites.

Responsible disposal and recycling of electronic waste.

Elimination of single-use plastic cups, cutlery, and stirrers.

Social Responsibility

Our People

We are committed to providing a supportive, inclusive, and environmentally conscious workplace:

  • All employees receive reusable mugs and water bottles.
  • Participation in the Government’s Cycle to Work Scheme.
  • Promotion of greener commuting through Clean Air Day initiatives.
  • Access to the Corporate Metro Saver Scheme, supporting affordable and sustainable public transport.
  • Installation of electric vehicle charging points under active review.

These initiatives help reduce emissions from commuting, which remains our largest emissions source, while supporting employee wellbeing.

Governance & Accountability

Oversight and Continuous Improvement

Our Climate Action & Sustainable Business Committee plays a key role in guiding environmental strategy, monitoring performance and embedding sustainability across the organisation. The committee focuses on:

  • Carbon reduction planning and tracking
  • Regulatory compliance and certification
  • Supplier and contractor engagement
  • Employee awareness and collaboration

Measuring Our Impact

We believe transparency is essential. Our emissions are tracked annually and benchmarked against employee numbers and company turnover.

Key highlights include:
  • 43% reduction in site electricity emissions year-on-year
  • 15% reduction in commuting emissions
  • Reduction in carbon intensity per employee and per £m turnover
