Why Join Us?
We're looking for driven candidates to join Winn Group for a year-long academic placement as a Legal Assistant for the 2027/2028 Academic Year. Here, you'll acquire firsthand experience within a legal firm and delve into diverse aspects of the law, gaining invaluable insights along the way.
There are a number of departments that are involved in this programme, they include:
- Contested Litigation
- Costs
- Vehicle Damage Pre-Litigation
- Vehicle Damage Post-Litigation
Your Responsibilities
As a Legal Assistant, your duties over the academic year will vary depending on the department:
Contested Litigation
Our Contested Litigation Department is made up of the Personal Injury and Personal Injury/Vehicle Damage teams.
The Personal Injury team deals with OIC (Official Injury Claims) claims and MOJ claims (liability admitted cases).
- OIC deals with liability admitted and liability disputed cases up to the value of £5000.00 for personal injury damages.
- MOJ Portal team deal with a range of liability admitted claims with a value of up to £25,000.00.
- Fee Earners may deal with PI-only cases or also deal with cases that involve credit hire and repairs as well as personal injury.
- Claims are submitted to the MOJ Portal once we are in possession of all evidence in support of the claim and enter a 35 working day negotiation period.
The Personal Injury/Vehicle Damage team deals with cases that involve minors, pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists
- Cases may be valued up to £25,000.00 and are submitted via the MOJ Portal.
- Other cases are more serious, and clients may have life-changing injuries.
- These cases may be worth hundreds of thousands of pounds and are dealt with by
- specialist solicitors.
Costs
Your duties will include completion of tasks to include but not limited to:
- Preparing Schedules and Bills of Costs, including Litigation Schedules such as Estimates and Statements of Costs for Trials and applications.
- Negotiation of Legal Costs and Disbursements.
- Issuing Part 7 and Part 8 Proceedings and Making Applications.
- Liaising with Legal Teams.
Debt Recovery
Your duties will include completion of tasks to include but not limited to:
- Pursuing clients who are in breach of the agreement signed with Winns or On Hire, including legal charges, repair charges and hire charges
- Working to bring clients back on board to co-operate, as this is the best outcome for both the client and the business
- Progressing cases to Debt Recovery Legal Action where a client cannot be brought back on board
- Recovering unpaid VAT charges from clients who are VAT registered
Vehicle Damage
(Post-Litigation)
Duties will include administration tasks to assist fee earners, and will include:
- Thoroughly preparing cases, securing evidence, and presenting compelling arguments for hire recovery.
- Optimising case profitability by maximising income through hire, repairs, recovery, and storage.
- Ensuring compliance with Court directions.
- Managing a caseload of litigated claims from issue to hearing or settlement.
- Delivering a level of Client Care in accordance with SRA regulations.

Recruitment Information
Applications for this role are open. Following on from this, shortlisted candidates will be invited to an assessment centre where you will be given a task from each of our departments. After this, should you be successful, you will then be shortlisted for a department based on your performance during the assessment centre. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to a face-to-face interview with the hiring managers.
