Winn Group is delighted to support our chosen charity Chuf, donating the funding required to deliver a year-round project on the ward.
The donation of £15,000 will allow the charitable organisation to provide patients on the Children’s Heart Unit at the Freeman Hospital with access to music therapy for the next 12 months.
Often facing long stints on the ward, with life grinding to a halt as they receive and await treatment, the children involved need stimulation and engagement to help the time pass during the most difficult of times in their lives.
A spokesperson for the charity explained the impact that music therapy can have.
Alicia Clovis-Mothalib, Chuf Corporate Partnerships Manager, said: “Music therapy doesn’t just enable better communication and develop motor skills in a creative way; it offers our babies, children and young people a chance to show themselves and others that they can create and achieve - sometimes they even become the ‘teacher’.
“They get to loudly prove that there’s more to them than their illness. The feedback that Chuf gets from parents and patients time and again, reflects how precious the sessions are in bringing laughter and connection in the midst of really tough times.
Scarlett really connected with Ethan, and they jammed for ages, even getting his dad on the drums. We got a glimpse of the old Ethan!”
Sam, a parent of Ethan, who had been on the unit.
“We’re thrilled to say that Winn Group’s donation will fund a whole year of one-to-one music therapy sessions on the Children’s Heart Unit.
“This will benefit around 100 Heart Heroes and create a ripple effect of benefit to an additional 185 siblings, parents and carers. This money will create so many positive memories - we can’t that you enough!”
Ross Jackson, Deputy CSR Lead, said: “With Chuf becoming our chosen charity, this project perfectly met the criteria set as part of our CSR programme.
“By providing entertainment, engagement, and a chance to smile during an unimaginably difficult time is not something to underestimate.
“Putting it like that, we were only too happy to help the team bring this project to life and make a real difference to the lives of those on the ward!”
