Timothy Wilson celebrated 10 years at Winns and summed it up with one simple phrase: “I feel like I’m right where I’m meant to be.”
Having started as a Claims Handler in our First Response Team post-university, back in 2016, Tim has progressed significantly during his time at Winn Group, as he explained when celebrating this significant milestone.
The Team Leader said: “Winns let me move to part-time for two years, including over COVID, to let me return to university to do my LPC and LLM course. They did a lot to support me in that time, including moving my hours around so it wasn’t too much, giving me a day off in the week, exam leave etc., and that was incredibly helpful.
“I wouldn’t have qualified without it. Otherwise, aside from awarding me a training contract, they’ve just really given me the space and room to grow as a lawyer, which I’m very grateful for.”
Tim is a fantastic example of Winns not only offering career progression pathways but actively encouraging those who wish to develop.
Being funded through his training contract, as part of our internal-applicants-only programme, Tim, who works in our Serious Injury Team, felt immediately at home with us and saw opportunities to move his career in a multitude of different directions.
He continued: “Honestly, at first I thought it would be a place to get a bit of experience and save some money, and then I’d give the Bar a go.
“After a little while though, I found that I really enjoyed working cases all the way through, and getting to see the full client journey, planning out the cases and settling files felt a lot more satisfying to me personally, so I decided to stay with it.
“I found that I enjoy the working culture here at Winns, and you can get a lot of development here, so I stuck it out, and in the blink of an eye later it’s my 10th anniversary, and I’m wondering where the time went.
“I don’t regret the time I’ve spent here though; I feel like I’m right where I’m meant to be.”
David Dewar, Associate Director – Head of Contested Litigation, said: “Tim is another excellent example of the career development opportunities available at Winn Solicitors.
“Tim began his career as a Case Handler in the First Response Team before progressing to a Paralegal role within the EL/PL department. He then successfully completed his solicitor training contract with the firm and went on to establish himself as a highly effective EL/PL Solicitor following qualification.
“After several years of strong performance, Tim was promoted to EL/PL Team Leader, a role in which he has continued to excel. He is a highly respected and talented solicitor and leader, who has made a significant contribution to the business throughout his career.
“I would like to congratulate Tim on reaching this 10-year milestone and look forward to seeing his career continue to develop and progress in the years ahead.”
With too many people to thank for their help and support over the last decade, Tim instead focused on what encouraged him to extend his stay beyond his training contract and into a strong legal career here.
He added: “It’s a cliché to say ‘the people’, but I really enjoyed working with the EL/PL Team, even if most of them are now Serious and Tech rather than purely EL.
“These days, I feel a responsibility to try and help my own team develop as well, and it’s great to see them move from newbies into more confident Fee Earners and qualifying in their own right.”
Congratulations on the anniversary, Tim!
