Walk to School Week: Headteacher Hoping for Lasting Legacy

Winn Group is delighted to have sponsored a Byker-based school’s Walk to School Week activities for this year.

St Lawrence’s RC Primary School took part in the Living Streets event, thanks to a sponsorship donation from Winn Solicitors.

It allowed the children to take part in fun activities, with the hope they will be encouraged to conduct greener commutes and walk, cycle or scoot to school, instead of taking the car, in future.

The campaign has been co-ordinated by Living Streets, a charitable organisation that focuses on safer streets and encouraging people to walk more often.

Headteacher Paul Brown said; “As ever, we have been delighted with the support given to us by Winn Solicitors.

“Most noticeable this year has been the very obvious reduction in traffic around the school gates.  This has been crucial in improving safety around the school as well as the obvious health and environmental benefits that walking to school brings.

“We hope that there will be a strong legacy from the Living Streets programme that will encourage children and families to maintain such good habits into the long-term future.”

Winn Group Digital Marketing Manager Amy Thompson said; “We are always keen to support our local community and have done so by sponsoring school participation in Walk to School Week for a number of years.

“We’re delighted that the children were able to take part and it was great to see so many smiling faces in the pictures the school provided.”
