A massive well done to Team Winn Group who won the Business Fives Newcastle Champions League Regional Final last night!
In the group stages, the team successfully beat Faithful & Gould 3-0, MAC Project 7-0, and then drew against JC Consulting 2-2, a result all the more notable as Winns scored twice in the last 50 seconds to restore parity.
Kieran Embleton scored five goals in the group stages and Andrew Anderson four.
Winns then faced UNW in the last-16 knockout stages where they drew 0-0 going straight to sudden death penalties. Andrew stepped up first scoring his penalty, followed by Michael Stuart who saved the UNW penalty sending the team through to the quarter-finals.
In the next round, Winn Group beat Pyrocel 2-0 to proceed to the semi-finals and a clash with Blair West which saw them triumph 2-0.
They faced SaleCycle in the Business Fives Champions League final and started well with a great individual goal from Andrew. Powering on, they took control of the game and ended up securing a 3-0 win, the trophy, and a spot in the National Finals in October.
The team had the best defensive record in the tournament only conceding twice in seven games! Mark Pallas was the rock at the back making it difficult for any opponent to break the defensive line. Only conceding twice and keeping clean sheets in every knockout round! Michael won the competitions Golden Glove award and received a shout-out from Newcastle local legend, Steve Watson comparing his performances as Shay 'Given-esque'.
We want to say a huge thank you to Azumo Assist Ltd who have generously doubled our donation, taking our total to £700! Lee Clayton made sure the team were well stocked up with refreshments whilst they played back-to-back games. Some calling him the Guadiola of the north.
Well done to Micheal Stuart, Jonathan Anderson, Andrew Anderson, Kieran Embleton, Mark Pallas, and Chris Jones.
