At Winn Group, apprentices are actively encouraged to progress with us to enhance their learning and development.
Many have moved from their original role into different aspects of the business, including Accounts, HR and legal roles, building their career paths while providing valued input into what we do.
The same can be said of Lucy Newham, one of our apprentices who recently moved into an HR Administrator role.
A hard-worker with a diligent approach to her work, we decided to catch up with Lucy as she continues her upward career curve with Winn Group.
How long have you worked at Winns?
I started working at Winn Group in April 2019.
What roles have you had at the company since you started?
I was working in the Portal Department as an Admin completing a Level 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship, I then moved to the Central Administration Team when all administrators and secretaries combined into one team.
How do you feel your career and skills have developed at Winn Group?
My career has progressed a lot since I first started in 2019. I have gained a Level 3 Business Administration qualification and progressed into the HR Department.
I received a lot of support from my managers while completing my apprenticeship. They were always there to help with my assignments and provide useful examples I could use within my set work. Apprentices are offered lots of support.
I currently receive a lot of support from the IT department as I now work on the Intranet SharePoint development site one day a week. This is very new to me as I am used to dealing with court bundles and file transfers etc, however this is very IT based and can be quite technical.
What is the purpose of your new role as Winn Group HR Administrator within the HR team?
The purpose of my new role is to provide support to the HR Department. My current daily tasks include completing the daily absence within the business, creating absence reports, processing new starters and leavers, and completing any necessary paperwork for past and present employees.
Since transferring into my new role, every day there is something different to deal with and learn. My role has changed since being in the Central Admin team as I have gone from working within a team on a set rota to being in charge of my own timetable and prioritising my workload in order of importance.
I am learning more and more as the weeks progress and can’t wait to develop my knowledge and see what I can achieve in the future.
What do you like most about working for Winn Group?
I like the atmosphere in the office, everyone is so friendly and always available to offer support or help when it’s needed. There is also so much room for progression at Winns with a huge variety of departments and job roles.
What is your favourite Winn Group staff benefit?
My favourite benefit is probably getting the extra day holiday for your birthday or the Winns parties.
Which Winn Group Core Value (Integrity, Respect, Loyalty, Reliability) do you think is best represented in your team and how?
Respect – As we all respect each other while working as a team and we are always available to help one another with tasks and advice.
