From spilled coffee to raised glasses, Victoria Maugham certainly has had an eventful ten years after achieving her decade milestone!
The Deputy Head of Costs started out as an Admin Assistant a decade ago, before joining the Costs Team and working her way up to Deputy.
Victoria has worked diligently both on the job and while studying for her qualifications alongside this, with achievements including qualifying as a Costs Lawyer, completing a law degree, and starting out on the path to her SQE1 and 2 exams.
With management courses and an NVQ in Team Leading under her belt, she is the epitome of a Winns employee who is encouraged to develop in her role and eager to progress.
It’s a world away from her first day though, as she explains after being given flowers and bubbly on her work anniversary.
She said after hitting this latest milestone: “I can vividly remember my first day as though it was yesterday! I was wearing a blue jumper and black pants and I spilled a coffee on myself and all over my induction pack.
“It must have been a good omen of what was to come. I started on the same day as Sheila Anderson in Central Admin; we have always celebrated our Winnversaries together!
“I didn’t have a degree or any legal qualifications when I first joined Winns. I am sure that in many other firms I would not have had the same opportunity to progress without a law degree but the firm has always fully invested in me and my potential.
“When I started with Winns, my highest qualification was AS-levels. Winns supported my qualification as a Costs Lawyer, which I started in 2014. They then supported my decision to apply for a Solicitor Apprenticeship in 2017 after I qualified as a Costs Lawyer.
“I have now completed my law degree and will sit my SQE1 and SQE2 exams shortly with a view to being qualified as a Solicitor in 2023 before enjoying a well-deserved summer without revision or exams.”
Playing a part in one of the firm’s most notable legal achievements – the industry-changing Broadhurst v Tan appeal – Victoria has made her mark and was keen, on reflection, to thank those who have supported her along the way.
She said: “I’d like to thank the managers who have always supported and encouraged me. I would also thank the Directors for their continued support and investment.
“When I look back on my decision to apply for a Winn Group role just over 10 years ago, I could not have anticipated the exciting journey and career trajectory that awaited me – let’s see what the next 10 years brings!”
Congratulations on the 10-year milestone moment, Victoria!
