A fantastic achievement, Nichola Welsh recently celebrated 20 years at Winn Group!

A Costs Lawyer and Team Leader in our Costs and Debt Recovery department, Nichola started out back in 2006 as an office junior in the post team, having just left school.

Deciding to embark on a career in the Costs Team, she began as an admin before moving into a Trainee Costs Draftsman role, prior to qualifying as a Costs Lawyer, and then going on to become a Team Leader.

But after receiving champagne, flowers, and vouchers, Nichola admitted she wasn’t 100% sure she’d be celebrating two decades at Winns.

She said: “I originally only planned to stay for 12 months to get some work experience before I started my degree at Northumbria Uni.

“I was lucky enough to be offered part-time hours alongside my degree, which was brilliant. I worked part-time for three years until I finished my degree and went straight back full-time - I never expected to be here for 20 years!

“It was very different to now! I started in the small little office on Heaton Road - everyone knew each other back then! There were only four people working in the Costs Team in total, which is very different to now.

“We had fax machines dotted around the office, and everyone used dictaphones to record file notes!

“I sound like I started in the olden days, but I promise, I'm not that old!!”

Nichola continued: “I feel I have been given lots of opportunities since starting my career at Winns. I never even knew what Costs were until I started working here, let alone expected to qualify in the area!

“I would like to thank all of the Costs Team, who have been a pleasure to work with over the years. A special thank you goes to Rachel Glendenning who has been here with me from the start and who has been supportive throughout the years, especially as my manager!”
