Winns-Sponsored Whitley Bay SC U13 Girls Team Win Trophy

At Winns we like to do our bit to nurture the talents and skills of the next generation, to give back to the communities that we live and work in, and show our support for young athletes. We sponsor a number of football and sports clubs, and we have always been immensely proud to do so. Today though, we wanted to give a special mention to the Whitley Bay Sporting Club U13s girl’s team, who have recently lifted the Wade Financial Trophy!

Facing off against Ponteland Pride U13 girls at Craik Park, the home of Morpeth Town FC, the team from Whitley Bay may have entered the final as the underdogs but took the lead before halftime. That goal, scored in the last minutes of the first half, proved to be enough for Whitley Bay to clinch the title in a thrilling end to the season.

“It was a great end to the season for this fantastic set of young ladies.” said team coach, Jamie Murphy,

“From the word go it seemed as though they just weren't going to lose. They positively burst out of the blocks, which was great to see.”

“Ponteland are an excellent team with some very talented players, but we had them pinned down. All thirteen of our girls really pulled together as a team in order to win the Wade Financial Trophy, and we are very proud of each and every one of them.”

Celebrating Girls Football Week

The U13s team's hard-won victory capped off an eventful day for Whitley Bay SC, which also saw success for the U12s and U15s teams. The victory was even more meaningful as it came during Girls' Football Week, a campaign established by the FA to encourage as many girls as possible to get into the sport and onto the pitch.

Michael Warmington, HR Director at Winn Solicitors said

“This is an outstanding achievement by the team and as their sponsor, we are thrilled for them. Everyone here at Winns is exceptionally pleased to sponsor the fantastic Whitley Bay SC U13s team, and we can't wait to see what they achieve next year and beyond!”
